A Note From the Pastor...

June 2010

Recently, I began reading a book by Brian McLaren entitled Everything Must Change: When the Word's Biggest Problems and Jesus' Good News Collide.

When I set off for Romania for the first time a couple of years ago, I didn't with the idea that I would be addressing one of the world's biggest problems or that I would be exposed to the politics which keeps things at status quo. In fact, I wasn't sure what I would find. I only responded to my freind's call to come there, much like McLaren did when he headed off to Africa.

Unlike McLaren, I did not go to a Third World country. I went to a Second World country, instead but was still impressed with the difference in the standard of living between us and them. Romanians, too, have to get things done with limited resources- two or three hundred dollars a month of personal or family income.

In the not-too-distant future I will take leave of Cornerstone, but I will still hope for two things; first, I hope that you will soon be able to construct a new church building. Second, I hope that you will tie that blessed goal to a willingness and a desire to help our sister churches in Romania, one of which has a marvelous bell tower that is in dire need of repair. It would bless them to know that you genuinely cared to address their need where their resources are extremely limited and made more difficult by present world economics. I just learned that they have been forced to take cuts in pay and pensions up to 25%.

May I suggest that our help would be one way Jesus' Good News could really impact them concretely.

Blessings,
